Job Description

VCU Health System's Trauma/ Medical Emergency is seeking a full time EMS Communications Specialist to work in a dynamic, fast paced, high volume, Level 1 Trauma Center. Qualified individuals will work in cooperation with Emergency Department staff, licensed practitioners and Attending Physicians. Serves as the primary contact for patients arriving via ambulance and helicopter. Maintains efficient patient flow into the department and organization. Requires flexibility to meet the changing needs of the hospital and community. Communicates patient arrivals to appropriate staff. Accurately documents report and effectively communicates with ED and in-house staff. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and develops and maintains a positive working environment. Maintains a clean, safe environment and insures adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

Documentation and data collection of defined daily activities.

Communicate and coordination via telephone and radio with ambulance and helicopter traffic.

Other internal and external communication as required.

Works all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Supervisor and unit scheduler. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.

Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent

Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) Program

Current EMT-B certification

Minimum of one (1) year of active pre-hospital service and/or communications experience

Preferred

Two (2) or more years of active pre-hospital service and/or communications experience
